The Partnership for 21st
century’s mission is to serve as a catalyst to position 21st century readiness
at the center of US K12 education by building collaborative partnerships among
education, business, community and government leaders. The members of its
membership include some very big name companies to include Dell, Walmart, and
Microsoft. I also found that they use various tools and resources on the
website to include Educators, Policy Makers, Parents and communities, and Publications.
I understood most of
the information on the website and agreed with their opinions. However, there
was one piece of information that not only surprised me but I tended to
disagree with. They have a section on the website labeled “State Initiatives.”
It surprised me that there are only initiatives for 17 out of the 50 states. It
was almost disappointed that one of the states that didn’t have initiatives was
my home state of Georgia. The reason why I disagree with this is because I think
every state should have initiatives that help encourage the use of 21st
century skills.
The implications for my
students and me as an educator are very encouraging. Not only will the students
benefit from all of the work being done to help them build their 21st
century skills, but the educators will benefit as well since the groundwork for
creating instructional practices is being laid. This is a great website and I’m
going to definitely try and get them to work in Georgia!!
My state, Washington, is not on that list either. I agree that it is a disappointment. If P21 is so passionate about their mission to be a cataylst for 21st century readiness and they have been around since 2002, why is it taking so long to have every state on board? What are the requirements for getting a state on that list and what can we, as educators, do to ensure our states submission?
ReplyDeleteHi Craig,
ReplyDeleteI had the exact same thoughts as you, why is Georgia not part of the State initiatives? The criteria on the website all promotes students and teachers to benefit from the new ideas. I believe too, that Georgia will have great advantages if we take part in the Partnership of 21st Century Skills.
Hi Craig,
ReplyDeleteI really found the P21 website also beneficial. I am intending to join the P21 blog. I have checked one of the videos posted and I am going to watch the rest of the videos to understand the meaning of combining the three Rs and four Cs.
My state is on the list and has not kept up to date on ideas since 2009. It is disappointing because I feel that this action should be required for our schools to keep up with the demands of the 21st century. If not our students will be lagging behind in the future workforce. Hopefully the message of P21 will continue to grow and we will see more progress in the future.
