The week 2 Application assignment states to post an idea for how I might use a blog in my classroom. Therefore, every student in my class we create a blog using blogger.com and come up with a topic that relates to using portable technologies in the classroom. Each student must communicate via the blog with at least 5 other students.

  1. Hi Craig,
I think this is a great idea and informative way to prepare the students for the informational era and communicating in today's society. Will the students create blogs about technology relating to content area themes? Like politics (Social Studies), science or history. I noticed you live in Atlanta, and a great idea for a blog could be the presidential election. Jimmy Carter a Georgia native, could maybe contribute to some of your students blogs and give advice or ideas. If you are doing Science related topics, maybe some of the workers from the Georgia Aquarium could post information relating to water pollution or aquatic fish. Are you students familiarized with blogs already or will you need to teach them? One challenge could be that some students may not be comfortable or up to date with blogs. One way to overcome this could be by having them pair up with a student who succeeds well with blogs and computer usage. The more familiar student could teach the others and model for them how to blog, and post comments. Best of luck! Very excited to see how everything works out!

  2. Hello Jenny,
Thanks for responding! As of right now, I'm just using e'Readers to help encourage them to read. Your blog ideas are great and I will definitely pass them on to the teacher of this class. I'm just a researcher participating in this class so I don't have full control. But, your ideas are engaging and motivational. Thanks for responding and I'll definitely let you know how everything works out!!

  3. Hi Craig
It is good that you can have your students creating their own blogs. I think this may help to motivate them to learn, knowing that their will be published for the workd to see.
    Best wishes with your project

  4. Craig,
What types of ideas do you have when it comes to having your students creating blogs? Are you planning to integrate with other subject areas? It is a great idea to have students become familiarize with blogs. Just the other day I told my 7th graders about my blog and they asked "what is a blog Miss.Wallace?" It is a great way to introduce something new to students. They were so intrigued by the idea. Looking forward to seeing much more!

    1. Hello Amanda,
I plan to have the students create blogs to encourage them to put their thoughts on paper, collaborate, and critically think. I'm looking forward to seeing something new too!

  5. The Partnership for 21st century’s mission is to serve as a catalyst to position 21st century readiness at the center of US K12 education by building collaborative partnerships among education, business, community and government leaders. The members of its membership include some very big name companies to include Dell, Walmart, and Microsoft. I also found that they use various tools and resources on the website to include Educators, Policy Makers, Parents and communities, and Publications.
I understood most of the information on the website and agreed with their opinions. However, there was one piece of information that not only surprised me but I tended to disagree with. They have a section on the website labeled “State Initiatives.” It surprised me that there are only initiatives for 17 out of the 50 states. It was almost disappointed that one of the states that didn’t have initiatives was my home state of Georgia. The reason why I disagree with this is because I think every state should have initiatives that help encourage the use of 21st century skills.
The implications for my students and me as an educator are very encouraging. Not only will the students benefit from all of the work being done to help them build their 21st century skills, but the educators will benefit as well since the groundwork for creating instructional practices is being laid. This is a great website and I’m going to definitely try and get them to work in Georgia!!
